Starting therapy often comes with questions. At Butterfly Counseling Services, we want you to feel informed, comfortable, and confident before beginning your journey. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about our counseling services and what you can expect.
We’re here to help. If you don’t see your question answered above, contact Butterfly Counseling Services and we’ll be happy to provide additional information about our services and the process of beginning therapy.
Your journey toward healing, growth, and transformation can begin with one conversation.
We provide individualized mental health counseling designed to support emotional wellness, personal growth, healthier relationships, and meaningful change. Services may include individual therapy, couples therapy, trauma-informed counseling, depression and anxiety treatment, veteran-focused services, and support for returning citizens and justice-involved clients.
We work with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. We also provide specialized support for veterans, returning citizens, and justice-involved individuals. Our approach is compassionate, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and tailored to each client’s individual needs.
Therapy may help with a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, stress, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem, anger management, emotional regulation, substance use concerns, reentry challenges, and personal growth.
Our clinical foundation includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). We also incorporate trauma-informed, strengths-based, and client-centered principles.
Because therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, treatment is tailored to your personality, experiences, strengths, interests, needs, and goals.
Your first session gives you and your therapist an opportunity to get to know one another. We’ll discuss what brought you to counseling, your current concerns, relevant history, strengths, and what you hope to accomplish through therapy.
You may also complete appropriate screening and assessment tools to help your therapist better understand your needs and develop an individualized treatment plan.
Yes. When clinically appropriate, we use evidence-based screening and assessment tools as part of our comprehensive evaluation process.
Depending on your individual needs, these may include the PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5, LEC-5, AUDIT, DAST-10, ACE Questionnaire, and Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS).
Screening results are not used by themselves to establish a diagnosis. They provide additional information that your therapist considers alongside clinical interviews, history, presenting concerns, and other relevant factors.
Individual therapy sessions commonly last approximately 45–60 minutes, while couples or specialized sessions may require additional time. Your therapist will discuss session length and scheduling with you before treatment begins.
The frequency of therapy depends on your individual needs, treatment goals, clinical recommendations, and availability. Some clients may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may attend biweekly or at another clinically appropriate frequency.
There is no universal timeline for therapy. The length of treatment depends on your concerns, goals, progress, and individual circumstances. Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to evaluate progress and determine the appropriate duration of care.
If telehealth services are available, clients can participate in counseling from a private location using a secure virtual platform. Eligibility may depend on your location and applicable professional licensing requirements.
